Welcome to 5th Grade!!

SPELLING
  • Words introduced on Mondays, then homework
  • Pretest on Wednesday  (corrections 10x each)
  • Test on Friday

MATH

We have math everyday for approximately 57 minutes.  The first few topics are as follows:

  • place value of whole numbers up to the hundred billions place
  • place value of decimals to the thousandths place

READING
  • We begin studying the parts of our hardcover textbooks that will be helpful throughout 5th grade as well as sharpening our dictionary skills.
  • Next we read stories found in  Unit 1 of our textbook.

 

LANGUAGE ARTS

 

 We will alternate between smaller writing assignments focusing on complete sentences and grammar skills. We begin with Unit 1 which is about sentences/fragments as well as types and parts of a sentence.

SCIENCE 

 Science is taught by Mrs. Smudzinski.

SOCIAL STUDIES

      

 We are using an awesome book called "History Alive" for the 3rd year.  All homework will be done in students' Interactive Notebooks.  We will begin with geography, explorers, and colonial times.  To study for chapter tests online, see History Alive link below.
